ARTIST DESCRIPTION
In the 1960's Sir Coxsone Dodd (Creator of Ska music) recruited and number of young Jazz musicians from the local Alpha Boys School in Jamaica to create a new sound for Jamaica. Their names were; Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso, Lester Sterling, Johnny Moore, Don Drummond, Lloyd Knibbs, Lloyd Beveret, Jah Jerry, Jackie Mittoo, Jackie Opel, Doreen Schafaer.
Working as a band they created the Ska sound by fusing Jazz, R&B, Latin, Calypso & Soul. They we're the studio Muscians for artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, Justin Hinds, Alto Ellis and just about every Ska and Reggae artist of the day. They recorded everyday for countless hours and we're the backbone of Jamaican music.
Though many members have passed on the Skatalites have recruited younger musicians and still play on today.
